pin image for an Añejo Manhattan

An Añejo Manhattan is made just like a classic Manhattan Cocktail but it is updated with Añejo Tequila. The flavors of vanilla and caramel blend perfectly with the sweet vermouth and bitters. It is a perfect cocktail for tequila lovers!

    Ingredients

You just need Añejo Tequila, Sweet Vermouth, Angostura Bitters and Orange Bitters to make this cocktail.

    Añejo Tequila

If you have not had Añejo before it is a delicious tequila that is aged in barrels for a minimum of one year. Most Añejos have a beautiful caramel color. The flavor is a blend of salty earthy tequila mixed with caramel and vanilla.

a bottle of casamigos anejo tequila, two glasses stacked, limes and a shot jigger

Since this cocktail is a liquor forward drink you want to make sure and use a quality tequila. I have tried and really like:

    • Casamigos
    • Patron

    Glassware & Ice

A Manhattan can be served either up in a stemmed glass or in a rocks glass over a large ice cube.

If you like to serve your cocktail over ice, this Clearly Frozen ice cube set from Amazon makes amazing large CLEAR ice cubes!

And if you like to serve it up, in a stemmed glass let me give you a little tip about coupe glasses… they are SUPER abundant at thrift and antique stores. You can usually find sets of 6 for under $5.

Tips to Make the Best Añejo Manhattan

    • Use a quality Añejo tequila that is a nice dark caramel color. Generally a good Añejo will be $50+. When you smell it, it should have aromas of caramel and vanilla.
    • This drink will be stirred, not shaken.
    • After pouring the liquid over ice give it a thorough stir, this will melt a little water in, mix the flavors together and open the complex flavors of the Añejo.
