No need to buy that little taco spice packet from the grocery store, you can make a batch of Homemade Taco Seasoning right from your spice cabinet. You already have everything you need! Add it to a pound of ground beef with a dash of water and a tablespoon of tomato paste. Taco night is on the table in a flash!

This can also be used with a pound of ground chicken or turkey, shredded chicken, shredded pork or beef.

Spices Used

  • Chili powder – this is American style chili powder, not cayenne pepper. It is the same spice that is used in chili!
  • Ground Cumin – this is a very common spice used in a lot of Mexican style cuisine. Don’t skip this spice.
  • Garlic Powder – Always garlic!
  • Onion Powder – Adds onion flavor without adding onion
  • Dried oregano – crush the oregano in the palm of your hand before adding, it wakes the dried spices up! Use Mexican Oregano if you have it.
  • Smoked Paprika – This is one of my favorite spices, make sure you used smoked paprika, it has the most flavor.
  • Red pepper flakes – use as little or as much as you like to your preferred heat/spice level
  • Kosher Salt and Pepper
