Friday Gratitude- Tastemakers & Oprah 5.11.18

I had to take a minute from my gratitude post last week. It was a super busy week…. Anyone else find the month of May to be one of the busiest of the year? Sometimes I feel like it is busier than December!

I also needed to recalibrate my mind towards feeling grateful for the little things. I have gotten so busy with my part time job, my web site, and life in general that I am not allowing myself time to slow down and smell the roses once in a while. I need to remember to build that time into my day. At 5:00 it is ok to close the computer, put my phone down, sit for 10 minutes and then spend some time with my family.

Here are some moments from the past two weeks that I did find gratitude in:

Buying My Ticket To Tastemakers

Last year in June I got to attend the Pinch of Yum Photography Workshop. It was the highlight of my year! I loved every minute of it. I learned so much about my camera and food photography in those 2 days! Not to mention I loved 3 days of solitude in a beautiful hotel room in downtown Minneapolis and quality time with food blogging peers.

I am SUPER excited that this year I am going to a larger 2 day conference called Tastemakers. It will be a chance to find a community of my peers, chat with brands, and learn from the TOP food influencers in the business. …also looking forward to 3 days of solitude in a beautiful hotel room….. because, kids!

I think this will be just the thing I need to take me to the next level with Mom’s Dinner!

I am feeling super grateful that my husband insisted I buy a ticket to Tastemakers and invest in myself and Mom’s Dinner. Thanks, John! XOXO

Easier/Better

How great is this…..“It never gets easier, you just get better” quoted from my Nike running app.

I never thought of it that way. I always say “wow, running 3 miles was so easy today” or “writing 1200 words for that post went so fast”. When really I should be saying or thinking… My work training has made me so strong, or my writing skills have really improved. We need to be giving OURSELVES credit.

The actual writing or distance ran is still the exact same as it was the 20 times you did it before…. but YOU got better. What a great affirmation for the day. Knowing that you are improving and it is not by some miracle the 3 miles was easier… you are stronger which makes the 3 miles easier.

Feeling grateful for this reminder to give myself credit where credit is due.

Body Positive

If you are a LIVING HUMAN WOMAN you need to listen to Oprah’s podcast Super Soul Sunday. Specifically the episode where she interviews Amy Schumer. WOW WOW WOW!

If you want a super positive body image boost take a listen.

As I started a 3 mile walk this week I was super excited to see that Amy Schumer was interviewed on  Oprah’s podcast… I knew I would be laughing for the next 3 miles.

I couldn’t have been more wrong!

I think we all take Amy Schumer as a funny, kind of ditzy, sometimes crude chick. WRONG! That is definitely just the character that she plays on stage. This podcast episode was full of inspiration and beautiful conversation. I was literally cheering out loud, clapping my hands and fist pumping while I was walking.

They talked about feeling beautiful, being body positive, knowing your worth, the me too movement, and just all sorts of feel good woman-ey things.

Then I went to see her new movie “I Feel Pretty”….excellent!

A Taste of the Future

For the past 5 years I have been a stay at home mom and have had some combo of kids home during the day. When Kyle was a baby Maddie went to half day Kindergarten. Then as she got older and went to school full time,  Kyle also started going to a preschool part time. He has never gone full days or full weeks.

I have been so thankful for the time I got to spend at home with the kids! And as Kyle gets ready to go to Kindergarten next year I have wondered what my days will look like and what I will be able to accomplish in a day.

Last Tuesday I got a little glimpse into my very near future. Maddie went to school in the morning like usual, and Kyle had school as well. Normally he would be done by 1:00, but a friend invited him over to play after school until 4:00. So that gave me an ENTIRE day to myself! Similar to what I will have 5 days a week next year when both kids are in school.

I cannot even begin to tell you how much I accomplished in 7 uninterrupted hours!!!!!!! I was able to work on my part time job (the one that pays me). As well as work on my web site (the one that doesn’t pay me……. YET). I am so excited for 2018-19 school year, it is going to be full of all sorts of exciting changes for me.

I LOVED this little glimpse into my future this Tuesday. It made me very excited for things to come next year.
