We had a snow day and we had an 80° day, our weather is all over the place here in KC. But, I can feel that we are moving closer to spring. The trees are starting to bloom and the flowers are budding.
Here are the moments that made my week a little brighter:
I CELEBRATED making it to 300 followers on Instagram, which I know is not that many. But it’s a lot more than 0, right!? Now on to 300,000….
It is so important for me to remember where I started a year ago and celebrate small accomplishments. If I could go back and look forward to where I am now, I would be so proud!
If you want to see my EXACT moment of celebration you can go to my Instagram account profile page and watch the video marked 300.
I am so grateful I am starting to see the results of all my hard work.
Spring Snow
This would normally not make my gratitude list…especially in April. But this past weekend here in KC we had the most beautiful snow day. There was no accumulation, so it was like a powder sugar dusting over the spring green grass.
It was not a normal snow. It came down in the oddest clumps. Almost like pre-made snowballs falling from the sky yet they floated thru the air like feathers. It was mesmerizing!
I loved watching the snow fall on Sunday afternoon. I cherished it a little more than normal because I think..no, I hope.. that it will be the last snow of the season.
Hairy Armpit
As I sit here in front of my computer tonight I can hear my kids playing together in the tub. It is not something they do very often but they wanted to use their new bath bombs and decided to take a tubbie together.
They are playing, joking, and laughing together. Then Kyle looks at Maddie and says “you are a hairy armpit”… he laughs at himself. Then he starts to laugh even harder and says “no, your NAME is hairy armpit”. I wait to see what maddie is going to say. Is she going to call for me to get Kyle in trouble? Will she have her feelings hurt?
NOPE, she says “well thank you, that is a lovely name”!
YES!!!!!!! Mom success!! She bounced that insult right off of Kyle and took all the power away from him! I love that. Hopefully she can carry this all the way thru high school!
When the kids (usually Kyle) Jokingly call me names (like fart or butt or dirty dirt head) I always say “thank you! You must love farts, since I am a fart and you love me”. That quickly ends the name calling.
That little exchange between Kyle and Maddie put a huge smile on my face tonight. I love the confidence Maddie has as she gets older.
B-Ball
For the past 2 years at Christmas my hubby has been begging to get the kids a Gorilla basketball goal for our driveway. Every year I have said no because the kids were too young to appreciate it or we had other “big” gifts that were already planned or purchased.
This past Christmas it was finally time to get the bball goal!! I think John was just as excited as the kids.
It was finally warm enough and had it installed in our driveway this past week. I had no idea how much enjoyment we would get out of it! We have spent HOURS shooting hoops together.
I love this new “toy” for our house and that it allows us to spend electronic free time together.
A Conversation
My son, Kyle, goes to a great preschool here in KC. Since this is his last year and he will go on to kindergarten next year, we have been trying to make friends with some of the other kids that will go to his elementary school.
On Tuesday it was fairly warm outside so we decided to stay and play on the school playground for a little while. One of Kyle’s friends joined us, with his au pair from China. She is here studying and working for a year and then will return to China.
I had the most interesting conversation with her. We talked about Chinese culture and the differences between that and American culture. She tried to tell me about Chinese food that she loves and misses. I asked her what American food she really loved and she said tacos and mac & cheese… nothing but the best nutrition over here in America- LOL!
She told me about their schools and how she thinks after school activities are funny here in America because in China they do more school after school!
I loved this conversation today. Learning about Chinese culture and what she thinks of American culture.
Home Improvements
When we moved into our home 7 years ago it was an 80’s paradise. Purple and pink wallpaper everywhere, I mean EVERYWHERE, carpet in almost every bathroom, custom drapery around the guest bathroom tub, not a shower curtain- full on drapery, purple vertical blinds and carpet in the kitchen. Yes, you read that right, carpet in the kitchen! Who does that? To me, that would fall into the same category as putting carpet in your garage. It just doesn’t make sense! Obviously that was one of the first things we changed.
Our home improvement projects wax and wain for sure. About two years ago we painted all our woodwork, and scraped our popcorn ceilings. At that same time I ripped the carpet out of our master bathroom. I couldn’t take it anymore. I decided I would rather live with the plywood than have that carpet one more day.
Well, my wish came true. We ran out of home improvement steam and I lived with that plywood floor for about 2 years. However, I will say I prefered the plywood to that horrible carpet!
We finally did it… we finally laid down a real floor and it looks marvelous!
Everytime I walk into my master bathroom I feel grateful that we finally completed this project! The excitement is not wasted on me : )

Thank you for reading my Friday Gratitude!!! Instagram is my current focus and it IS HARD! I will see other accounts with like 25 posts and 1200 followers…I’m over here working my butt off for 300 followers. But I am thankful for every single one of those 300! It’s only up from here.
